BlueHost’s budget hosting plan offers a great deal of features with a small price. Currently, a free domain is offered with any new hosting account, as well as 2,500 email accounts. The disk space allotment is currently set to 10 gigs, which is quite a lot given that many budget hosts limit this amount to around 1 gig or less. BlueHost recently increased their monthly data transfer limit to 250 gigs, which is more than enough for the majority of websites. If you are running out of bandwidth on your current server, but you’re budget is standing still, this plan may be a good alternative.
50 MySQL databases are included as well as 50 PostgreSQL Databases. This should be sufficient for most sites, and their documentation did not mention a limit on the size of these databases. Three webmail clients are included, and this plan support PHP, Perl, SSI, FrontPage and CGI scripts. A file manager and a control panel are also provided for easy online site administration. You’ll also be able to schedule Cron Jobs, a feature that is rarely seen in shared hosting, particularly with budget hosting companies.
Support is provided for Fantastico, but you’ll need to purchase the license for the script library on your own. However, several plug-ins are offered and include blogging utilities, mailing lists, image galleries and PHPNuke, so you may not need to purchase Fantastico if these tools will get the job done for you.
For ecommerce customers, three different shopping carts are offered as well as a free shared SSL certificate. Password protected directories will be easy to manage and set-up, and you’ll even be able to set-up OpenPGP and GPG encryption for your data. Once again, this is rarely seen in budget hosting.
BlueHost offers a help desk for support, but it is not clear whether it is staffed 24/7. A live chat is available, but as of this writing, was not staffed. This is the only downside we could find to this plan, which is otherwise a solid hosting solution.Related Posts:
