Dynamic10 Hosting is now supporting Ruby on Rails, and they are running a special throughout the month of April that offers new customers 25% off any hosting plan. Currently, you’ll find three different hosting plans at Dynamic10, starting at $5.95 per month. We’re going to take a look at their mid-level plan, the Professional Hosting package.

This plan starts at $8.95 per month and features 1 gig of disk space and 60 gigs of monthly data transfer. These limits are pretty competitive for hosting packages in this price range and should provide Ruby developers with more than enough room to grow. Larger personal sites or small business websites would also find a good fit with this plan. You can add up to 20 parked domains, and will be allowed unlimited subdomains. Also included are unlimited email accounts, autoresponders and mailing lists, which is also nice to see. In addition, SpamAssassin is provided free of charge and a webmail client is included.

PHP, Perl, Python and GD are all supported and unlimited MySQL databases are provided. Once again, considering the monthly price, this is a very good deal. CPanel is offered with this plan and Fantastico is provided free of charge. As mentioned earlier, this plan does support Ruby on Rails, but Dynamic10 doesn’t go into details on what, if any, modules are supported. In order to appeal to Ruby developers, Dynamic10 may want to change this on their site.

Access to raw server logs and error logs is provided, and two site statistic programs are offered. The typical CPanel functions such as password protecting directories, protecting hotlinks and more are also included. For technical support, the help desk is open 24/7 and there is also a comprehensive knowledgebase for self-help resources.

For the money, this is a great plan that just needs a little improvement in the documentation area. While we would have liked to have seen other support options, Dynamic10 has done a good job of combining essential features with a low price and it’s hard to knock a host that offers support for Ruby on Rails.
