Hosting Department’s slogan is, “We Bring New Meaning to the Phrase Home Page,” and they have done a great job building three shared hosting plans that are all reasonably priced. They also offer reseller hosting if you need more space and the ability to host multiple domains. For this review however, we’ll be looking at their HDLite Plan which is currently priced at $3.95 per month for the monthly billing option, or $45.95 for the annual billing option.
For space, you’ll get 3 gigs of disk space and 10 gigs of monthly data transfer, which is pretty reasonable given the monthly price. Unlimited email accounts are offered, as well as a Mailman mailing list, unlimited autoresponders and a virus/spam checker. Unlimited FTP accounts are provided, as well as unlimited MySQL databases, which is great to see for a plan in this price range.
Four shopping carts are offered, and Fantastico is provided free of charge. CPanel is the control panel for this hosting package and the typical features for this panel include the ability to run your own back-ups, password protect your directories, check your site statistics, configure email accounts and much more. A free $102 value script package is also being offered as well as 100 site templates. A dedicated IP address is not offered with this plan, but if you need this option, the next plan up does offer this. There is no mention of an SSL certificate, so upgrading to the next higher plan would be advisable if you plan to run a secure ecommerce store.
Instant set-up is offered, and there is currently no set-up fee. There is a 7-day money back guarantee, which isn’t great, but it is better than no guarantee. Since this plan is so low priced it really shouldn’t be that big of an issue, unless you purchase more than one month at a time. Technical support is provided 24/7 via their helpdesk. There is also a customer forum if you prefer to find an answer to a common question quickly.
Overall, this plan is extremely well priced and offers a lot of nice features for a small personal or business site, but it would not be well suited to an ecommerce application.Related Posts:
