Web Host Blocks Phishing Scam

A New Zealand based web hosting company successfully averted a major phishing scam when they noticed that a customer in the United States registered twenty-five different versions of a popular bank’s domain name. National Bank has not yet commented on the hosting company’s efforts.

“They used different credit card numbers to register the domains through our automated registration system, so our suspicions were quickly raised,” says Web Drive managing director Daniel Williams.

Verisign Partners with Habeas

According to Habeas, a popular email hosting provider, they have officially partnered with Verisign. The company’s release stated, “The partnership enables Habeas’ receiver partners, as well as the ISPs and enterprises that use the Habeas SafeList, to benefit from the VeriSign identity validation processes now available to Habeas sender certification.”

Habeas currently processes 100 million queries per day against their SafeList.

“Aligning ourselves with partners like VeriSign and other premier reputation data providers allows us to expand beyond the traditional methods of email sender analysis to more innovative and effective approaches,” says Des Cahill, CEO of Habeas.
