HostRocket’s Rocket Freedom plan looks good, but is it right for you? Let’s find out.

First off, we’ll take a look at the disk space and bandwidth limits. Currently, this plan features 5 gigs of disk space and unlimited bandwidth. After scouring their site for their terms of service to find out what their definition of “unlimited” entailed, we discovered that you can only have 3,000,000 “connections” or hits on their server each month. Note: You’ll find this information during the account sign-up process. They do reference bandwidth overage charges, but do not elaborate on what these fees are.

On the plus side, you’ll also get access to a large script library that includes free blogging tools, content management system, ecommerce solutions and much more. If you need any of these tools, having a built-in library with an auto-installer can make the process a lot easier. Unlimited email accounts are provided, as well as support for ImageMagick 5.5.6, server side includes and streaming media. Be advised that if you do decide to stream any rich media files that if they exceed 33% of your overall traffic, your account may be suspended and you may have to face overage fees.

Unlimited sub-domains are provided, and you’ll get 10 MySQL databases with this account. You’ll also get unlimited email addresses and support for Bigmailbox.com and Anyone.net is provided. A webmail client is provided if you prefer to access your email online. For an extra $2 per month, you can have your own dedicated IP address, which is helpful if you have your own SSL certificate.

Support is provided 24/7 via their support ticket system and their online community. HostRocket does offer a 30-day money back guarantee with this plan, and price breaks if you purchase your hosting in advance.

The bottom line? If you have a small site that doesn’t receive a lot of traffic, or if you don’t plan on streaming any rich media, this hosting package might work for you. However, due to the lack of documentation on overage fees and the difficulty in finding their policies, this is not a host that we can highly recommend.
