RackSlash is a highly revered web hosting company that offers a number of hosting options. Their virtual private server plans feature low prices with a large amount of features. In fact, most of their plans are comparable in features with dedicated budget hosting plans, for a lot less money. Let’s take an in-depth look at their RS V-Series 600 plan.

This plan comes starts at $45.50 per month and includes 10 gigs of disk space with 400 gigs of monthly data transfer. You’ll be guaranteed a minimum of 250 MHZ on the CPU and 198 Megs of RAM. It’s nice to see a hosting company be this up front on the kind of system resources you can expect with a VPS plan. This also means that RackSlash hasn’t tried to cram too many plans onto one server, which can improve your site’s performance.

At this point, they have advertised that only 15 VPS plans are housed on one server, which is very reasonable. RackSlash also claims to make it easy to upgrade your plan, even to a dedicated option, with virtually no downtime. This will come in handy as your site continues to grow. There is a 10 day money back guarantee with this plan and a 99.9% uptime guarantee as well. It would have been nice to see a full 30-day money back guarantee, but something is better than nothing.

Virtuozzo VE Technology is used and you’ll also have WebHostManager and CPanel for your site management needs. Root access is offered and you can host an unlimited amount of domains with this plan. MySQL is supported and PHPMyAdmin is offered for your database management needs. You’ll also have full management of your DNS, mail and other services, which is another nice feature. Support is offered 24/7 by support ticket, and there are several useful tutorials in their support center.

Fantastico is provided, free of charge, as well as support for Perl, PHP, cron tab management, CGI and Python. If you need one, you can request a software firewall for your site for an additional fee, but at this time, a hardware firewall is not available with this plan. If you do need this option, it is available at the next higher level plan.

Overall, this plan’s price is a little high, but you get what you pay for in terms of resources and the knowledge that your site won’t be competing with hundreds or possibly thousands of other sites on the same server. The technical support options could have been better, but this plan still receives a high ranking.
