Review of Flashback
Site5.com has released a new application called Flashback. You can learn more about it here. At this time, Flashback is only available to new Site5.com customers, and there are a few limitations. Resellers may be disappointed to learn that it is not available on their accounts, and it cannot be resold or repackaged to their customers. Other than that, however, this is a solid application that has a ton of uses.
Flashback is referred to as a “time machine for your site.” It is similar in concept to the Wayback Machine, but offers you the ability to quickly restore a file at any time. As an example, if you accidentally overwrite a key file, you would be able to go into your Flashback control panel and restore it immediately. This is a great help for webmasters who are having trouble with installing an application, or if you just have a tendancy to overwrite a file by accident.
There are several other uses for Flashback, including changing the look of your site for a holiday season and then snapping it back to the way it was before with a click or two. Let’s take a look at some screenshots from Flashback to see how it works.
Once you’ve logged in, you’ll see the following on your screen:
This screen will list the contents of your website and allow you to easily modify, change or view any of your files.
You can click on a file to see more information about it:
You’ll be able to perform your flashback here, see how many times a file has been restored, as well as list of all the previous versions of that particular file.
Flashback will also allow you to compare different versions of files.
You can also preview your file before making any changes:
This is truly a fantastic application that will no doubt grow and become even more useful. While it would be nice if it was available for all site owners, this may well be worth a transfer to Site5.com.Related Posts:
